Project "Perspectives of the Ohrid frame-work agreement"

After the signing of the frame work agreement in Ohrid many dilemmas about the contents, essential parts and implementations of the agreement appeared. At first, the students didn't have enough knowledge about what was considered to be essential for this agreement. The information that were available by the media weren't objective enough so they have increased the confusion as well. The main problem appeared with the changes of the Constitution.

The organization of the open debate dealing with the topic of the Ohrid agreement was considered to contribute to the student knowledge of the essential parts of the agreement and its implementation.

The open debate on topic: The perspectives of the Ohrid Frame work agreement for peace took place from 25-28/09/2001 in the four student's campuses in the country.

Functional team consisted of four specialized teachers was in charge of this occasion. They were specialists with great deal of credibility among the students. The attention was focused on informing the students about these debates by distributing fliers and posters.

The discussion tackled the following issues:

  • The role of the international commissioners in the process of creation and realization of this agreement
  • The definition of the peace agreement
  • The changes in the Constitution
  • The new law for territorial decentralization
  • The languages in formal use
  • The Referendum
  • The amnesty of UCK terrorists.
  • Ethnic communities
  • The legal form of civil resistance.
  • Introducing of a internal borders
  • National census, etc.

Totally 425 students out of 2660, that are settled in the campuses, took part in the open debates, that is around 16%. This fact can be taken as a minimum interest born in students to take a part in discussion, taking in consideration the fact that the limited space in the campus didn't allow all the interested students to be a part of the open debates.
